Silkstone is back after a three year hiatus, since they stalled making a follow-up to For a reason. While their name used to represent a mix between soft ballads (silk) and up-tempo songs (stone), their music has now completely become middle-of-the-road. A road through Dutch polders and leading nowhere. The only noticeable difference in altitude was towards the end of the show, when their solid new single Here In Your World (for which they need a second attempt) was followed by an extended and exasperating version of Lady.
Because it was the showcase of their new record I can understand why they didn’t play a lot of old songs, but why this one has survived the break I can’t grasp. It has always been annoying and hasn’t got any better over the years. They also played different renditions of Rain has come and What's the reason, including a cellist, from their debut album and the rest of the show consisted of new material, which is pretty much interchangeable. Except for the title song and the closing song Never Get Close I didn’t see any reasons why I should buy their new album.
