Grootste Staatsbezoek Allertijden in Baarn
and MorePosted by Moose 2008-07-16 20:47
It’s been awhile since my last update and that’s not because I’ve had nothing to report about. In fact, I’ve been extraordinarily busy, and lazy too, I have to admit. But luckily for you, I’ve managed to find some time to fill you in with the latest occurings in my rather dull life.
Starting of with ‘het Grootste Staatsbezoek Allertijden’ (biggest parade of (fake) royalty ever) in the lovely Dutch town Baarn. The streets were filled with thousands of elderly spectators, a couple of kids and my sister and me. I’d probably be wiser not to share this with the entire world, but since only 6 people per month visit this site, it was my idea to go. But I only asked my sister because I knew she’s fond of costumes and historical figures like Sissi.
The basic concept of the event was that people dressed as former kings and queens and other highly regarded persons from way back in time rode on horse-drive carriages through Baarn. While the parade went down to the royal palace Soestdijk, we went to the centre of town for lunch and to buy a present for Father’s Day. We’d already decided it was going to be the new James Bond-book, but to our big surprise we were able to buy it at a store that carried our family name. On the way back we also bought and ate some delicious sirupwaffles (honey-flavored, the other option being mocca, gracefully presented in a market stall).
